Bar is a city and seaport located in the coastal region of Montenegro and the capital. It is located on the Adriatic Sea and is a major tourist destination. The city is known for its historical significance, with the old town of Stari Bar located inland at the foot of Mount Rumija, with ruins dating back to the 6th century. The current city, often called Novi Bar, is the main port in the country and has developed significantly since the late 1970s to facilitate the import and export of oil. It is approximately 53 kilometers from Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. To the east is the largest lake in the Balkans, Lake Skadar. To the west, across the sea, lies Italy.

The natural area around Bar is largely untouched and rich in vegetation. The municipality extends to the southern shore of Lake Skadar and encompasses the region of Krajina. This area is visited for its leisure activities and hiking. Smaller settlements near Bar, such as Dobra Voda, Sutomor and Čanje, are destinations for sunbathing and swimming, with long sandy beaches. The bar represents a combination of modernity, tradition and beauty. It is significant as a dynamic economic center of Montenegro, but also as a city that preserves a rich cultural and historical tradition. Some of the most significant civilizational achievements in the area of Montenegro were created in Bar: the remains of the oldest written monuments are preserved here, the most significant literary and historical work of the Montenegrin Middle Ages was created here, and the city was also the seat of the oldest religious institution of Montenegro (Archdiocese of Bar). In addition, in Bar there is one of the oldest olive trees in the world, Stara maslina na Mirovica, which is over 2000 years old.
