In relief, morphology and geographical features the southeast end of Dugi otok island and the islets that surround it belong to the natural entity formed by the Kornati Islands, the most numerous and most indented group of islands in the Adriatic Sea. There are exactly 8,625 metres as the crow flies from Vidilica Point to Pasjak Bay; the sea route is somewhat longer, 9,100 metres, There are ten islets and rocks in Telašćica Bay itself, and twelve more within the boundaries of the nature park. The most picturesque of the Kornati Islands is Katina, the most unusual is certainly Taljurić. The well-known cliffs of Dugi otok are exposed to the open sea, and under Mrzlovica they tower almost 200 metres above the sea surface.
Immersed in luxuriant greenery, the secluded and exceptional world of Telašćica Nature Park attracts the curious and connoisseurs to surrender to the natural beauty of Dugi otok, to bathe in the medicinal waters of Mir Lake, a rare example of a salt-water lake on an island, saltier and warmer in summer than the nearby sea, or to bask in the shade of branching pines whose bows stretch above the sea. Telašćica has been inhabited since ancient days, as can be seen from Roman remains in Mala Proversa, and numerous pre-Romanesque churches, out-standing among which is St John's in Stivanje polje. There are cultivated fields around Sali, but the villagers are more interested in the sea than in their fields, vineyards and olive groves.
This can be seen best from the summer competition of Sali fishermen, whose thousandth anniversary falls in 1995. This and much else attracts visitors to Telašćica Bay, a Nature Park of the Republic of Croatia and a place where nature enjoys a high degree of protection, which it well deserves. Three Croatian national parks are very close to and easily accessible from Telašćica: Karnati NP, Paklenica NP in south Velebit, and Krka NP. summer competi-tion of Sali fishermen, whose thousandth anniversary falls in 1995.
