The global distribution of natural gas reserves is primarily concentrated in a few key countries, with Qatar having the largest proven reserves as of 2020. Russia leads the world with approximately 47.8 trillion cubic meters of proven reserves, followed by Iran with 33.7 trillion cubic meters and Qatar with 24.1 trillion cubic meters. These figures are in line with data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), which ranks the Russian Federation, Iran and Qatar among the top three countries in terms of proven natural gas reserves in trillions of cubic feet.
Russia has the largest proven natural gas reserves in the world, estimated at 1,688 trillion cubic feet. Iran is in second place with 1,187 trillion cubic feet of proven reserves. Qatar is third, with 890 trillion cubic feet of proven reserves.
