Kosovo, a self-proclaimed independent country in the Balkans in Europe. Although the United States and most members of the European Union (EU) recognized Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia in 2008, Serbia, Russia and a significant number of other countries, including several EU members, did not. Given this lack of international consensus, Kosovo was not immediately admitted to the United Nations in 2010 (UN). The International Court of Justice ruled that Kosovo's declaration of independence did not violate international law, but Serbia rejected that decision.
Kosovo, a landlocked country, borders Serbia to the north and east, North Macedonia to the south, Albania to the west and Montenegro to the northwest. Kosovo, about the same size as Jamaica or Lebanon, is the smallest country in the Balkans. Kosovo's borders are mostly mountainous, characterized by sharp peaks and narrow valleys. The Šar-planina lies along the southern border with North Macedonia, while the Kopaonička mountains are located along the northeastern border with Serbia. The highest point is Mount Đeravica, at 2656 meters, on the western border with Albania.
We've seen over time that countries that have the best economic growth are those that have good governance, and good governance comes from freedom of communication. It comes from ending corruption. It comes from a populace that can go online and say, 'This politician is corrupt, this administrator, or this public official is corrupt.'
I was never one to patiently pick up broken fragments and glue them together again and tell myself that the mended whole was as good as new. What is broken is broken - and I'd rather remember it as it was at its best than mend it and see the broken places as long as I lived.
