Dubrovnik-Neretva County is the southernmost Croatian county. Due to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina near Neum, it is divided into two parts - Dubrovnik with Korčula and Neretva. A large part of today's Dubrovnik-Neretva County was once part of the Dubrovnik Republic. After the official abolition of that state in 1808, this area entered the Triple Alliance of Croatia, Dalmatia, and Slavonia, and was then part of Austria-Hungary until 1918.
